This guided tour is a great opportunity to explore the different periods of the Ninth Fort history. It is like a journey through time, covering decades full of events: from Kaunas Fortress to the Nazi occupation of Lithuania.

First of all, the history of Kaunas Fortress is presented in the semi-caponier of the Ninth Fort and the construction of the Ninth Fort, the armaments, the other forts of Kaunas Fortress and the armies of the German and the Russian Empires during the First World War are discussed. After getting acquainted with the exhibitions on Kaunas Fortress, the unique element of the Ninth Fort, the defensive wall (underground communication galleries), is visited. The entire structure of the defensive fortification can be seen from the roof of the barracks.

Later, the meeting room, prisoners’ cells and punishment cells of the division of Kaunas Hard Labour Prison, which operated in the Ninth Fort during the interwar period, are visited.

The tour continues with the NKVD transit prison, which operated in the Ninth Fort during the first Soviet occupation.
