Call for teachers until 5 June 2022
28 September – 5 October 2022, Kaunas Ninth Fort Museum (Lithuania)
9-16 October 2022, Gusen & Mauthausen Memorial Sites (Austria)
To teachers and high school students: would you like to take part in a cutting-edge remembrance project?
Teachers and pupils from across EU can now apply to take part in a unique project based on a cutting-edge formula of combining visits to memory sites, in situ history learning and processing the past by means of art. The recruitment for the interdisciplinary initiative Sound in the Silence, organised by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS) and MOTTE cultural association in cooperation with partners in Lithuania and Austria, is presently open. This year’s 8th edition of the project is going to be held in two different locations, one after another: at the end of September at the Kaunas Ninth Fort Museum (Lithuania) and beginning from 8 October in Gusen & Mauthausen Memorial Sites (Austria). The application deadline is 5 June.
Sound in the Silence is an interdisciplinary remembrance project aimed at encouraging high school students from around Europe to actively reflect on the difficult aspects of the 20th century history with the use of artistic means. This year’s participants –in each edition 4 groups from 4 different countries (one teacher and 7 pupils) – will travel to one of chosen location: Kaunas Ninth Fort Museum (Lithuania) or Gusen & Mauthausen Memorial Sites (Austria), where they will explore the history of the places that were the scenes of crimes committed by the Nazi regime during the Second World War. Drawing on their reflections and emotional reactions to what they will come to learn there, young students will work together with professional artists to create a performance based on acting, dance, music and creative writing.
This will be the 8th edition of the Sound in the Silence.
The recruitment for the project has just started. Interested teachers are encouraged to apply by filling out an on-line form: https://sisrecruitment.enrs.eu/More information can be found at: https://enrs.eu/edition/sound-in-the-silence-2022-23

Previous editions of the project have taken place in Neuengamme, Borne Sulinowo, Gdańsk and Oświęcim/Terchova near Žilina, Ravensbrück, Warsaw and Bremen.
