From Tuesday to Friday, individual visitors, families or groups willing to learn more about the themes of the museum are welcome to book an overview or thematic guided tour in advance. Guided tours are available on weekdays (from Tuesday to Friday) in Lithuanian, English and Russian*. For booked tours, you must register in advance by email muziejus@9fortomuziejus.lt or by telephone +370 686 26243. The number of participants per group is up to 25 persons (tour can be booked by one person).

20 € per group + entrance tickets This tour is a great opportunity for those who are in a hurry, but would like to get to know the history of the Ninth Fort. In just over one hour, participants will learn about the different periods of the history of the Ninth Fort. First of all, the history of Kaunas Fortress is presented in the semi-caponier of the Ninth Fort and the reasons for its establishment and its uniqueness from other objects of Kaunas Fortress are explained. In the defence wall (the central poterne), visitors are introduced to the weaponry of Kaunas Fortress, as well as the former cannon and gunpowder storage rooms. The tour continues in the meeting room, cells and the punishment room of the prisoners of Kaunas hard labour prison, which operated in the Ninth Fort during the interwar period. The exhibition dedicated to the NKVD transit prison in the Ninth Fort during the first Soviet occupation (1940-1941) is visited. 1 h. 20 min., 20 € group + entrance tickets During the excursion, visitors are introduced to the destruction of the Jewish nation by Germany during WWII: the expositions about mass murders in the Ninth Fort and in Lithuania in 1941-1944, the history of Kaunas Ghetto and the destinies of its residents, and the Lithuanian saviours of Jews are presented. Mass destruction of foreign Jewish citizens, foreign diplomats who saved Jews during WWII, the destruction of the remains of the people killed by Nazis, and the legendary escape of prisoners (burners of corpses) from the Ninth Fort are focused on. He reveals the most enigmatic details of the Ninth Fort’s fortifications: artillery weapons, former artillery gun and garrison positions, their hiding places, drinking water well and ammunition warehouses. Who were its defenders and what military equipment were they equipped with? The answers to these and many other interesting questions related to Kaunas Fortress will be revealed to the participants of the tour. During the tour, the exhibition in the Ninth Fort’s defensive fortification (semi-caponier) will give an insight into the prehistory of Kaunas Fortress, its construction, modernisation, weaponry and garrison. Later, a visit is made to the defensive wall (underground communication galleries), where the positions of the artillery guns and garrison are examined. The tour continues by climbing up to the former barracks building, where the entire structure of the defensive fortification is presented. Returning to the exhibition space, visitors learn about the modernisation of the fortress buildings and the history of the capture of Kaunas Fortress.
